About Us!

Friends of the Pitt County Animal Shelter, better known as Pitt Friends, is a non-profit group that was set up to help the animals at the high kill shelter in Pitt County. We help with many things at the shelter and we also have foster homes that pull animals from the shelter to keep them until good homes are found. We are a very small group and can always use volunteers! If you would like to see all the animals we have up for adoption please visit our petfinder site at pittfriends.petfinder.com

UPCOMING EVENTS!!

Pitt Friends is ALWAYS out at petsmart on the weekends. Saturday from 12:30 to 5:00 and most Sunday's from 2:00 to 5:00. We take dogs from our foster program and we also go by and pick up some of the animals from the shelter. So come out and visit us at Petsmart in Greenville, NC. The dogs would love to see you!

Time is running out for many animals that are housed at the Pitt County Animal Shelter!!!

Working to save animals just like Arnold (above) and Lance (below) from the shelter. They are both still at the shelter but time and space is always limited. Pitt Friends is dedicated to saving as many aniamls from the shelter as possible. If you are looking to add a four legged friend to your home please visit our AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION page and please go by the shelter.

Pitt County Animal Shelter

The county took over running the animal shelter about 4 years ago and have done an outstanding job. The adoption rate sky rocketed from what the City was doing when they ran the shelter. The animals get as much time as possible before being put to sleep but unfortunately it still isn't enough for most of them. You can HELP!! PLEASE spay and neuter your pets and encourage neighbors, friends, and relatives to do the same and we will see a decrease in euthanasia. It won't happen over night but it can happen with everyones help!! BE AN ADVOCATE!!

NLOL (New Leash On Life)

The Pitt County Animal shelter and Pitt Friends partner with Craven Correctional Institution in the New Leash on Life Program. Every 8 weeks we select 2 unwanted dogs from the animal shelter. Pitt Friends pays for all their medical expenses and gets them ready to go. They are trained in basic obedience by the inmates. It is a win win situation for all involved and the program has been a huge success. Pitt Friends handles the application process (so please contact us if interested) for this program because once we have the dogs vetted, they become Pitt Friends dogs. If they are not adopted at the end of the 8 week program they are placed in foster care through our organization. If you have any questions please contact us at pitt.friends@yahoo.com for more information.
